Inventor

Inventor of Lightning Bug (11-12)

I used my STEM skills and racing experience to invent Lightning Bug, an electric-powered alternative to the Briggs & Stratton LO206 gas-fueled motor commonly used in competitive kart racing.

Operator Console Research and Design Project  (10, 11)

Hands-on leader for a team of 6 students

Manage Team Tasks

  • Adapt to COVID-19 remote and socially distanced meeting protocols
  • Prioritize and finalize Operator Console (OC) requirements in the ClickUp project management tool
  • Research different joysticks, switches, and potentiometers for their haptic and visual feedback
  • Select switch and potentiometer types for initial manipulator panel prototype testing
  • Design multiple switch layouts to evaluate designs
  • Test variations of OC prototype for physical ergonomics
  • Select a final design and blueprint it in SolidWorks (CAD)
  • Machine parts from CAD drawings, fabricate and assemble final design

Perform My Tasks

  • Facilitate requirements-gathering sessions with the entire 4293 team of 25 students and five mentors
  • Lead stand-up meetings at the beginning and end of each team work day
  • Track team and individual progress in Click-Up with daily updates
  • Design and build a modular approach to quickly configure multiple competing prototype manipulators and steering panels (Single and Dual Joysticks, HOTAS, Flight Yoke, and Steering Wheel)
  • Facilitate tests of the steering device prototypes with the JetBot AI robot (the full-size robot was not available)
  • Facilitate OC prototype evaluation and review with 4293 team members and mentors
  • Manage the bill of materials and project costs
  • Track ordering and delivery of parts and materials
  • Draw the final schematic diagram and the wiring diagram
  • Program the OC's Arduino controller to support required IO functions
  • Assemble active components, solder and heat shrink all connections
  • Write a requirements-based test plan
  • Test and debug Arduino software and hardware IO
  • Integrate OC's output with the 2022 competition robot's input

University of Wyoming (8-9)

Engineering Summer Program for Teachers (ESP4T)

I volunteered twice as a teaching assistant for a weeklong professional development workshop hosted at the University of Wyoming campus, focusing using of Physical Computing as a teaching tool to engage K-12 students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

At just 12 and 13 years old, I worked side by side with University of Wyoming Graduate students demonstrating to K-12 teachers Arduino and Raspberry Pi programming and how to breadboard and troubleshoot IO device connections.

  • I was the only non-UW Grad student selected for the volunteer opportunity.

STEM and Outdoor Karting (10-12)

Every kart adjustment, sometimes down to the thousandth of an inch, impacts the kart's physics.

I use a dynamometer, scales, and laser alignment tools to help fine-tune the kart chassis for maximum performance.

CU Pre-Health Scholars Program (10-12)

Smart Textile Design - Internship (10)

I conceptualized wearable health monitoring sensors that would have a tangible impact on society. These wearable devices would provide valuable feedback about the wearer or their surroundings.

  • Mental Wellness - Anxiety, Depression, PTSD
  • Social Awareness - Sobriety (self), Lie Detection (others)
  • Social Cognition - Interpret Body Language for Autistic and Blind wearers

Focus project: Allergen Detector Bracelet

Engineering Summer Program (ESP2022)

I participated in a week-long program of hands-on experiences in various engineering fields.

  • We even got to stay on campus in the dorms!

I worked one-on-one with faculty members and UW Grad students to explore various Engineering activities.

One of only thirty-six high school students nationwide to attend.

That's me operating an offshore drilling rig simulator at the parent demonstrations.

STEM and the Arts - Fashion Design and Technology

Hands-on leader for a team of 6 students

Team Tasks

  • Research available technologies
  • Make final design and material decisions
  • Sew two dresses and one suit
  • Model the futuristic, asymmetric evening gown with working lights

My Tasks

  • Manage project schedule
  • Coordinate schedules for in-person working sessions
  • Tailor fit each item to the associated model
  • Integrate functional lights into the evening gown
  • Presented group summary during the competition
